Topic: Jesus and Truth/Honesty
Text: “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE…” (John 14:6).
Truth is defined as “sincerity in action, character, and utterance.” Perhaps the most famous verse about truth in the Bible is what Jesus said in our text this week: “… I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus was/is not just truthful, He is the TRUTH—the embodiment of the infallible nature of God the Father. He never violated His Own Word. He spoke the TRUTH wherever He went. He lived a life we could follow explicitly. In our text, He calls Himself the Truth.
The Bible describes Him as full of grace and truth in John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”And John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” When we give Jesus room in our lives and He is Lord, our lives will be full of grace and truth as we manifest His nature. Remember: like Father, like son (daughter). Any life not ruled by Jesus is controlled by the Devil and Jesus describes the Devil as the father of lies—the exact opposite of Jesus. John 8:44 says: “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Whose child are you?
Interestingly, even those who did not believe in Jesus recognized Him as truthful and uncompromising in the things of God. See Matthew 22:16 “And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.”Is this your testimony? Or, will people say otherwise about you and your character?
Before Jesus left this world physically, He gave a report of His assignment to the Father. In John 17:8, He said: “For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.” He did not compromise the Truth of the Word that the Father gave Him—He declared it whether it was convenient or not. In the same manner, we as children of God, and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ must preach the Word, be instant in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2).
Brothers and sisters, as imitators of Jesus Christ, we must walk in and speak the truth.
Meditate on the following Scriptures and prayerfully ask for grace to abide by the Truth:
Psalm 15:1-2 “O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;
Zechariah 8:16 “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace;”
Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.”
1 John 1:8 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
1 John 3:18 “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

LIVING LIKE JESUS IN 2013
JESUS AND HIS GENTLENESS
TEXT: Matthew 11:29:- “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I amgentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jesus told us to learn two things from Him—gentleness and humility.
We see Christ’s severity and zeal in the way He rebuked the Pharisees (Matt.23) and Peter (Matt. 16:23), and in the way He turned over the tablesof the money changers and drove them out of the temple (John 2:14-16). That represented one aspect of God’s nature that Jesus manifested—a deep hatred for sin.
But we also see the gentleness of God in the way Jesus dealt with notorious sinners. We see something of the gentleness of Jesus in the way He spoke to the woman of Samaria. Jesus had asked her about her husband. The woman immediately changed the subject and asked Jesus a totally unrelated question about worship (John 4:17-24). And we see there that Jesus did not press the issue of her immoral past, but allowed her to change the subject, and answered her question about worship, while pointing her to the Savior. A gentle person will always be cautious never to say anything that will hurt others, even while showing concern and burden for their salvation.
Jesus further demonstrated His gentleness in accepting little children even when His disciples were preventing them from coming to Him (Matthew 19:13-15)—“Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.”
The Bible gives us ample evidence of Jesus’ gentleness. The Old Testament depicts the Messiah as unusually gentle, telling us that Jesus would not break a“bruised reed” or snuff out a “smoldering wick” (Isaiah 42:3). In our text, Jesus affirmed His gentleness: “I am gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29). And the apostles often reminded the early church of Jesus’ gentleness: “By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you” (2 Corinthians 10:1).
The apostle Paul behaved like Jesus. How did he treat people, especially those who often failed? In 1 Thessalonians 2:7, Paul gives us a glimpse of how he treated others: “We were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children.”
Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch. It is a tender, compassionate approach toward others’ weaknesses and limitations. A gentle person still speaks the truth, sometimes even painful truth, but in doing so guards his tone so the truth can be well received. Gentleness and love go together.
Gentleness is “the Christian spirit.” Someone has said, “All who are truly godly and are real disciples of Christ have a gentle spirit in them.”
Unfortunately today, too many people equategentleness with weakness. Can we really say that Apostle Paul and the Lord Jesus Christ “weak” individuals? Of course, NO! It is clearly a misunderstanding to assume weakness has anything to do with gentleness. In fact, the reverse is true. This is one example of where the wisdom of God is considered foolishness by the world. We had rather beleive and follow the example of Jesus than listen to and copy the world.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
- Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch.
- A gentle person speaks the truth in a way others can receive.
- True followers of Christ are distinguished by gentleness.
- “Let your gentleness be evident to all.” Philippians 4:5
Jesus Christ calls you today to learn from Him: gentleness and humility. Are you harsh, brutal and rash in your dealings with others especially those of the household of faith? Are you harsh with your spouse or children?
Today, pray for strong hands with a soft touch as the Lord Jesus, and become a new man in Him.

Jesus Rebuked Sin But Loves the Sinner
Text: John 8: 22-24:- “So the Jews were saying, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?” And He was saying to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”…
Jesus Christ, being a true and perfect reflection of the Father, is holy and His eyes are too pure to behold sin (Habakkuk 1:13). His hatred of sin was aptly demonstrated in His rebuke of the Jews who failed to believe that He is the Son of God, and the Savior of the world as shown in our text. The Bible says: “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ” Romans 6:23. Jesus came into the world to pay the only acceptable price for sin through His death on the cross.
In John 4:1-24, we see His love demonstrated to a Samaritan woman. He severely reproved her sinful state of life, but does not leave her in it. He lovingly leads her to conviction and acceptance of His lordship. She goes out and brings others to see and hear the Messiah. This is to show that no past sins can bar our acceptance with Him, if we humble ourselves before Him, believing in Him as the Christ, the Savior of the world. (John 4:27-42)
Another example is recorded in Luke 7: 36-50:–“And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”
This woman, despised in the eyes of all, met Jesus as a sinner; she left Him cleansed, forgiven, justified, accepted and restored. This is an excellent example of the fulfillment of His promise that says: “whosoever comes to me, I will in no wise cast out.”
This reminds us of the song that says:
“Sinners Jesus will receive; Sound this word of grace to all
Who the heavenly pathway leave, All who linger, all who fall.
Chorus:
Sing it o’er and o’er again; Christ receiveth sinful men;
Make the message clear and plain: Christ receiveth sinful men.
Come, and He will give you rest; Trust Him for His word is plain;
He will take the sinfulest; Christ receiveth sinful men.
Now my heart condemns me not, Pure before the law I stand;
He who cleansed me from all spot, Satisfied its last demand.
Christ receiveth sinful men, Even me with all my sin;
Purged from every spot and stain, Glory I shall enter in.”
Brothers and sisters, just like Jesus, we must have uncompromising zero tolerance for sin, but deep and sincere love for the sinner. That love should motivate us to seek their salvation through prayers, sharing God’s Word with them, and showing Christ by our lives.
What would you do differently from today to follow Jesus’example? Pray for grace to follow the Master’s example.

TOPIC: Jesus and Rest
TEXT: Mark 6:30-32
“The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.”

A little earlier in this chapter, Jesus sent out His twelve disciples to drive out demons, heal the sick, and preach the Gospel of the kingdom. We learnt last month how the Lord empowered them to do just what He assigned them to do.
When the disciples came back to Jesus, understandably, they were eager to report to the Master about their experiences—how demons were cast out and how they saw Satan fall like lightning.
Despite the busy time they have had, the Bible tells us that many people were still coming and going and as such, they had no leisure time—not even time to eat. Jesus immediately instructed them to come apart and rest a while. What was the purpose of this rest?
It was two-fold:
1. To restore them after the physical exhaustion the disciples faced: the work of the kingdom—preaching, praying and fasting could be draining to the body, although many Christians ignore that fact. The Master knew that and prescribed rest for the disciples. Similarly, today, God’s servants must learn the art of resting after releasing anointing through ministration. They need physical re-tanking and must learn to come apart and rest awhile. “A sound mind in a sound body,” is still very true today—even for Christians.
And for those in secular work, this is a lesson to be learnt by many. When we live at a busy pace, rest is the chance for us to rejuvenate and avoid burnout. But it goes beyond that.
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we have a responsibility to care for it—without neglecting the spirit and soul. Rest for recuperation is healing to our bodies, nerves, reasoning and strength.
If Jesus recommended it for His disciples, it must be good.
2. Jesus understood that rest here would be a time for them to refocus. Rather than simply recharging us so we can tackle our work week, rest can change how we fundamentally view our lives. Rest gives us the ability to refocus.
Refocusing means a shift of our attention from activity to relationship. Rest would enable us to keep our eyes on Christ instead of drifting over to our own hustle and bustle.
Jesus knew the disciples needed refocusing and a renewed spiritual view on life, and rest was the key. And we see a great example of this coming from Jesus Himself.
Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work—Exodus 20:9-10. Many in our fast-paced world have forgotten and completely neglected this command. We are in a rat race to acquire money and stuff to the neglect of our souls—no more time for “Sabbath rest”—for worshipping our Father in heaven.
After God’s people were liberated from Egypt, He gave them a commandment that would cause them to slow down and view Him and the world “in pause.” When the Israelites were in slavery under Pharaoh, they had no break in their daily work routine—a complete contrast to the fourth commandment.
The commandment insisted that God’s people set aside one day a week to remember several important things: God’s work in creation (Gen. 2:2), their liberation from Egyptian bondage (Deut. 5:12-15), their relationship with God (6:4-6), and their need for personal refreshment (Exod. 31:12-18). This was not to be a day of laziness, but one where God’s people acknowledged, worshipped, and rested in Him.
We too are called to slow down, to be refreshed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and to behold God in His good creation.
Sometimes when we refuse to heed the call to rest, Jesus in love and mercy, forces us to rest—as symptoms and signs of exhaustion show up in our bodies.
In his book entitled God Calling, A. J. Russell said: “Rest. It is wrong to force work. Rest until Life, Eternal Life, flowing through your veins and hearts and minds, bids you bestir yourselves, and work, glad work, will follow. Tired work never tells. Rest. Remember I [God] am your Physician, Healer of mind and body. Look to me for cure, for rest, for Peace.”
Jesus calls out today, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29.
Brothers and sisters, do we allow rest to shift our attention? Do we use this time to get refocused on the Lord our Physician? Do we truly slow down enough when we rest—to observe the pause/Selah in life?
If the Son of God rested, and instructed His disciples to rest, brothers and sisters, go and do likewise, and you shall find rest for your soul.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Welcome in Jesus’ name to Day 3 of the 3 days Holy Ghost prayer and fasting for the month of August 2013. Blessed be the name of the Lord for “in Him we live, we move and we have our being”.
Our theme for this month’s prayer and fasting has been: The Holy Spirit Speaks.
On Day 1, we saw how the Holy Spirit speaks to us and what He is saying at this critical time in our world.
On Day 2, we deliberated on the Holy Spirit speaks in us to instruct and guide us; and how He cannot speak in us if we do not belong to Christ.
Today, we want to discuss, The Holy Spirit Speaks Through Us.
Text: 1 Corinthians 12:3:- “Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: andthat no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”
The Holy Spirit Speaks Through Us in Prophecy:
The Spirit of true prophecy is the Holy Spirit: “Thus says the Lord,” or “God said”.This language abounds in Scriptures some 3800 times—from the Old to the New Testament. This shows that the Spirit of God Who lives inside a man can speak through Him to others and reveal the Father’s heart at any point in time, and on any matter of importance to the Sovereign God. Many of the prophets after hearing from God would say: “But now, thus says theLord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have calledyouby your name; YouareMine. When you pass through the waters, Iwill bewith you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For IamtheLordyour God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.”Isaiah 43:1-3.
In the New Testament, Apostle Peter said: “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spokeas they weremoved by the Holy Spirit.” Indeed, the Spirit of prophecy is the Spirit of the living God: men spoke as the Holy Spirit inspired/moved/spoke through them.
The Holy Spirit Speaks Through Us to Confess Jesus as Lord:
Our text (1 Corinthians 12:3) powerfully declares that NO MAN can confess Jesus as Lord but by the Holy Spirit. Those who know how evil spirits react to the mention of the name of Jesus would know that NO EVIL SPIRIT WILL EVER MENTION THE NAME OF JESUS OR MORE SO CONFESS JESUS AS LORD. Only the Holy Spirit can speak through a man to make that confession. The demons tremble at the mention of the name of Jesus.
Brethren, have you opened your heart to the Holy Spirit and confessed Jesus as Lord? If not, “He [the Holy Spirit] saith”now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:1-2). Open your heart to Him and receive the grace of salvation in Jesus.
The Holy Spirit Speaks Through Us In Holy Ghost Baptism:
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and spoke through them in unknown tongues. In Acts 2:1 – 6:- “When the day of Pentecostcame, they were all togetherin one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.All of them were filled with the Holy Spiritand began to speak in other tonguesas the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearingJews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.”
As a result of this experience, 3000 converts were added to the Church. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is still available and applicable to the Church today. He comes upon the believer like ‘rivers of living waters”—John 7:37-39—and gives us the privilege to communicate directly with God. 1 Corinthians 14:2 says: “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
Brothers and sisters, have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed, with evidence of speaking in tongues? If not, ask today and He will fill you with power.
The Holy Spirit cannot reside in a dirty vessel until washed by the Blood of Jesus. A broken vessel He will receive, mend and fill. Make yourself available to Him; empty your life of all that is not of God and the Holy Spirit will be able to reside in you and make His home in you. That way, He will begin to speak to you, in you and through you for God’s glory.

Blessed be the Lord God Almighty Who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. We are at the end of the 8th month of 2013—kept by the power of the Holy Spirit. Welcome to the 3-days Holy Ghost prayer and fasting for August 2013.
Our theme for this month is: THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS
For Day 1, our topic is: The Holy Spirit Speaks to Us
Text: 1 Tim. 4:1-5:- “The Spiritclearly says that in later timessome will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spiritsand things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.They forbid people to marryand order them to abstain from certain foods,which God createdto be received with thanksgivingby those who believe and who know the truth.For everything God created is good,and nothing is to be rejectedif it is received with thanksgiving,because it is consecrated by the word of Godand prayer.”
We are at a point in our world’s history when we need to have the Holy Spirit’s guidance so we don’t miss God and His will for us. The end times are upon us, and we must be guided by the Holy Spirit. Our text tells us what the Holy Spirit says to us concerning the end time:
– Some shall depart from/abandon the faith: this is happening all around us. Even Churches are beginning to change by-laws to conform to the wishes of this world and redefine marriage to be “more inclusive”—pleasing man while offending God! How sad!!! The Church is without excuse because the Holy Spirit has spoken and is speaking to us. Are you listening? Is the Church listening? We MUST hear Him.
– Some will follow deceiving spirits: believers are running from one Church to another looking for miracles, signs and prophecies—rather than studying to make themselves approved of God, and being workmen who are not ashamed, dividing the Word of truth—2 Timothy 2:15. Does this describe you or someone you know? If so, listen to the Holy Spirit speaking and warning against such attitude. Repent and turn to the Lord.
– Some are following things/doctrines taught by demons: how are we to know such doctrines? The Bible has the answer: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world (1 John 4:1). All doctrines that do not line up with God’s Word; do not follow God’s plan of eternal life; will condemn anyone to hell are doctrines of demons. Examples include: reincarnation, you can get to heaven by good deeds, worshipping false deities, Jesus is just a ‘cleared man’ and not the Savior, no existence of heaven or hell—to mention a few. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, there can be no discernment. Trust Him to help and prevent you from following doctrines of demons.
Brethren, we beseech you in the name of the Lord:“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death” (Rev. 2:11).
When the Holy Spirit spoke to the Apostles of old—Phillip, Peter and Paul—they obeyed. Acts 8:26 – 30:- “Now an angelof the Lord said to Philip,“Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch,an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.”
Acts10:19 20:- “While Peter was still thinking about the vision,the Spirit saidto him, “Simon, threemen are looking for you.So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
Acts 13:2:- “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.”
What about you? The Holy Spirit is speaking today. Do you recognize His voice? Do you hear Him? Will you obey? “So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion,….Hebrews 3:7.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Praise be to God Almighty Who has made us partakers of the divine nature in Christ Jesus. It continues to be a tremendous privilege to study the life of Jesus Christ. We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will be formed in each of us as we seek to know Him.
This week, we want to consider: Jesus, the good Shepherd.
Text: John 10:11-18:- “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
This is how Jesus described Himself to us during His earthly ministry. Before He came physically into the world, David described Him in Psalm 23 saying: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters; He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
David’s description of“the Lord”, that is “Jesus” was born out of his personal experience as a shepherd boy. Before he became king, David tended the sheep of his father, Jesse and knew first-hand the characteristics of a shepherd and the sheep.
Apostle Paul described Him in Hebrews 13:20 as “that great Shepherd of the sheep.”
Centuries later, F. B. Meyer describing Jesus had this to say: “He has a shepherd’s heart, beating with pure and generous lovethat counted not His own lifeblood too dear a price to pay down as our ransom. He has a shepherd’s eye, that takes in the whole flock and misses not even the poor sheep wandering away on the mountains cold. He has a shepherd’s faithfulness, which will never fail or forsake, leave us comfortless, nor flee when He sees the wolf coming. He has a shepherd’s strength,so that He is well able to deliver us from the jaw of the lion or the paw of the bear. He has a shepherd’s tenderness; no lamb so tiny that He will not carry it, no saint so weak that He will not gently lead, no soul so faint that He will not give it rest.”
What an apt description of Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep! Let us examine these characteristics one by one:
1.His pure and generous love: He gives us our daily provision so shall not want/lack any good thing. He laid down His life to ransom us from hell fire. He prepares a table before us even in the presence of our enemies: prepares the food, dresses the table and invites us to eat. He is preparing same for us at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Revelation 19:6-9: “Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
Are you ready for the Lamb’s feast? Are you sure He will invite you because your name is written in the Book of Life? Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
2.His perpetual watching eyes: the Bible tells us that His eyes look to and fro the whole earth to show Himself strong/mighty on behalf of those who fear Him
(2 Chronicles 16:9). How wonderful to know that even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, His eyes see us because He is with us—as a “very Present Help”—that is Jesus, our great Shepherd. “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
3.His dependable and unfailing faithfulness: when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Great Shepherd will never leave us nor forsake us. He is unlike the hireling who flees. Jeremiah could say: “But the Lord iswith me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper.” He has promised never to leave or forsake us—Hebrews 13:5.
4.His unconquerable/undefeatable strength: David was empowered to deliver his father’s sheep from the lions and bears; Jesus, the Source of power delivers His children from the lions of this world. Even the enemies see Him and fear because they know that “power belongs to God [Him]” (Psalm 62:11); and “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me [Jesus]” (Matthew 28:18). Alleluia! Through His power and strength, you can do all things as a child of God—Philippians 4:13—so tap into that power and be an overcomer.
5.His unequaled and unparalleled tenderness: A “good Shepherd” provides tender loving care for His sheep—that is Jesus. He is tender towards you and me. He is not a wicked, stern taskmaster, but a loving and gentle Savior. He says: “I am meek and lowly in heart.” Imagine the combination of two humanly impossible virtues of unconquerable power/strength and incredible tenderness! He was led as a tender lamb to the shearers, and He said nothing even though He has power to command legions of angels!
What can we learn from Jesus as a good Shepherd? He calls on us to adopt a similar astonishing life.
Brothers and sisters, having read the above, Jesus says to you and me: “Go, and do likewise”—love your brothers, sisters, and even your enemies; watch out for the good of others; be faithful to God, His word and others; be strong in the Lord; and, be tender and kind to one another—Ephesians 4:32.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Blessed be the name of the Lord for another opportunity to meet together and fellowship with the Father, Son and Holy Ghost–and with one another. It’s that time again to learn and know more about Jesus: the Author and Finisher of our faith and our Model. May we truly emulate Him as we run this life’s race.
Today, we will focus on Jesus: He intercedes for others.
Text: Hebrews 7:25:- “Therefore He [Jesus] is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”
After His resurrection from the dead, the Bible tells us that Jesus ascended into heaven and as we learned last week, the Father honored Him by enthroning Him at His right hand. What a place of glory and honor to be following His obedience unto death!
Brethren, a similar place of honor is being prepared for you and me if we will obey and endure to the end.
What is Jesus doing 24/7 on the right hand of the Father? Today’s passage tells us that “He lives forever to intercede with God on their [our] behalf.”
To intercede means to plead on behalf of another; to advocate for; to mediate in a dispute; to stand in the gap on behalf of another.
What a blessing to have our Advocate, Savior, Friend, Mediator seated perpetually with the Father and pleading our case!
1 Timothy 2:5 says: “For there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity–the Man Christ Jesus.”(NLT)
Jesus is qualified to intercede for us because His sacrifice has been accepted once and for all by the Father. He has successfully reconciled us to God–we who were strangers, enemies of God, without hope–have now become the people of God.
He shows His nail-pierced hands to the Father and as you and I approach the throne in prayer, praise and worship, He tells the Father, “this one is Mine; s/he is My child; My blood was shed for him/her; I know him/her; s/he is My sheep; grant grace and mercy; fulfill Your word and purpose; defend him/her; sustain and uphold; send Your angels to fight, release the blessing, and the anointing to do exploits.” Wonderful!
We do not see the Father but the One Who is on the right hand of the Father, He intercedes for us.
For whom does Jesus intercede? Our text tells us it is those who He has saved–“He [Jesus] is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him.” Are you saved? Have you come to God for salvation through Jesus?
If so, relax, Jesus is praying for you 24/7. You only have to rejoice and trust that since He knows what is best for you, His plans and prayers for you are for good and not for evil to give you an expected end. This should encourage us to pray more fervently knowing and confident that Jesus will take those prayers and requests before the Father and obtain the right answer, at the right time, at the right place.
If you are not yet saved, then today is the day of salvation, now is the accepted time. Receive Jesus today so you can begin to enjoy the intercessory ministry of Jesus on your behalf. Nothing could be better than having the Son talk to the Father on your behalf. You have missed out enough, now is the time to enter into that blessing.
Brothers and sisters, what a shame that God is looking for intercessors in our day–those who would stand in the gap for others so they will not be destroyed and there is none! Ezekiel 22:30 says: “And I sought for a man among them, that should build up the wall, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” If there is a time in human history that the world requires intercessors, it is NOW –more than ever before.
Our world has done much worse than Sodom and Gomorrah in rejecting God and going contrary to His will. We deserve God’s wrath; but intercessors can avert God’s judgment. If you and I will enter into that ministry today for our world, for governments and nations, for the unsaved, for families, individuals, ministers and ministries, the captive, the brokenhearted, the backslidden, etc., we will be living like Jesus.
Jesus interceded for Peter when Satan wanted to sift him as wheat and make him fall. Jesus prayed for his restoration. Luke 22:31-32 says: ” And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
But for Jesus’ intercession, Peter would have ended up like Judas! Because of that intercession, 3000 people were converted in one sermon! Who is that backslidden person that needs your urgent intercession? Pray for him/her now.
Thank you for interceding for others through Mount Zion Prayer Conference. Your intercession is averting dangers, deaths, sicknesses, saving souls, moving God to do mighty miracles, and opening doors. We have seen evidence that God honors corporate faith through the answers He gives us. As you intercede for others, your own challenges will be the Lord’s Own business and you will receive answers. Let us emulate our Lord Jesus Christ by entering into this high ministry of intercession and see God move in and through us.
Forget yourself and pray for others, and experience Jesus’ intervention in your situation.
